Fr. Augustine Thompson, OP will examine new discoveries about the liturgical and social significance of baptism in the cities of thirteenth-century Italy. These developments will be compared with the development of the theology of baptism from the twelfth century to Thomas Aquinas in the late thirteenth.

Fr. Augustine, O.P., has a Ph.D. from UC Berkeley and holds the S.T.M. from the Dominican Order. He is the author of Francis of Assisi: A New Biography, Cities of God: The Religion of the Italian Communes, 1125–1325 and Revival Preachers and Politics: The Great Devotion of 1233.
