Madrasa-Midrasha Summer Institute 2025

The Madrasa-Midrasha Summer Program 2025 is pleased to offer GTU students scholarship support for language study in Hebrew or Arabic this summer. The Jewish studies component will feature the modern Hebrew language intensive at the GTU organized by the Richard S. Dinner Center for Jewish Studies. The course will meet July 7th through July 25th. The course will be taught at the intermediate level, and participants must be able to read Hebrew and work their way through a basic Hebrew text. GTU degree program students and Continuing Education students are invited to register. For more information and to register, click here. The Arabic Studies component is offered to GTU students taking Arabic language courses at UCB, or any other approved course at any level.

The Walter and Elise Haas Foundation generously funds research on the Borley collection through the Madrasa-Midrasha program summer institute for the advancement of Hebrew and Arabic language resources at the GTU. These publications inaugurate careful study of this important collection. In-depth analysis of individual manuscripts will be published on the Father John Capistran Borley Islamic Manuscript Collection website as Haas Foundation funded scholarship through the program continues.

 The 2024 recipients of this grant have been Zeinab Vessal and Faisal Azar.
