The GTU is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Kamal Abu-Shamsieh as Director of its new Interreligious Chaplaincy Program and Lecturer in Practical Theology. 

The GTU is pleased to announce that the Rev. Dr. Debra J. Mumford (PhD, ‘07) has been selected as the GTU’s 2019 Alumna of the Year. Dr. Mumford is the Frank H. Caldwell Professor of Homiletics at Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, where she has taught since 2007.

Recently, we caught up with GTU/JST alum, Anthony Makana Paris (MA, ’11) in Honolulu to learn how he uses his experiences and education at the GTU to serve the Native Hawaiian community. 

Timothy H. Wadkins (PhD, 1988), professor of religious studies and theology at Canisius College in Buffalo, NY, has been awarded the Graduate Theological Union’s second annual Borsch-Rast Book Prize and Lectureship for his 2017 book The Rise of Pentecostalism in Modern El Salvador: From the Blood of the Martyrs to the Baptism of the Spirit (Baylor University Press). The Borsch-Rast Book Prize is awarded annually to encourage innovative and creative theological scholarship by GTU graduates and current faculty and carries a prize of $10,000.

CJS alumna Merissa Nathan Gerson (MA, ’13) is the driving force behind a campaign that encourages Jewish communities to oppose sexual violence and declare that “Consent is a Jewish value.” As part of the “Ken Means Yes” campaign, Jewish communites are encouraged to incorporate a brief reading of a Talmud-based script into services on Yom Kippur.
