Women & Thelema: A Case Study
Newhall Fellow Carrie Sealine will present an introduction to her Fall 2018 GTU/PSR course focusing on Thelema, the system of magick promulgated by Aleister Crowley in the early-mid twentieth century. While much of the academic interest in Thelema focuses on Crowley, this class will look at Thelema through the writings, paintings, music, dance, and personalities of the women who surrounded him, worked with him, inspired him, and, frequently, loved him.
By examining Thelema with the tools of critical, feminist, and queer theory, we will be able to develop and hone methodological skills and approaches for inter- and transdisciplinary work.
The Brown Bag lunch will briefly introduce Thelema and Crowley, Rose Kelly and The Book of the Law, and Babalon and The Gnostic Mass. We will read aloud.
