The GTU Council of Presidents invites the community to gather for prayer, remembrance, and solidarity with the Jewish community in the aftermath of the horrific attack at the Tree of Life Congregation in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania this past Saturday.
The brief interfaith prayer service will be held this afternoon, Monday, October 29, 2018, at 4:30 p.m. on the steps of the chapel at Pacific School of Religion (1978 Scenic Avenue, Berkeley).
The anti-semitic atrocity in Pittsburgh follows a week of hatred expressed in the killing of two African American elders in Kentucky, mail-bomb threats on the life of political leaders, and incendiary rhetoric vilifying those escaping violence and fear in Central America. It is important for the GTU community to gather in support of each other, religious pluralism, and a vision for the country that celebrates religious, ethnic, and cultural diversity.
Another opportunity for prayer and solidarity will be this evening for a multi-faith vigil being planned at the East Bay Jewish Community Center, Berkeley Branch, at 1414 Walnut St. from 8:00 to 9:30 p.m.
