Between Racial Chauvinism and Counterproductive Universalism
Searching for a Meaningful African American Muslim Discourse
Featuring Dr. Fatimah Jackson
In recognition of Black History Month, Zaytuna College presents a lecture by Professor Fatimah Jackson, a distinguished American Muslim scholar whose academic interests straddle the fields of anthropology, biology, genetics, and African American studies. A professor of biological anthropology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, her genetics research on African and African American populations and insights about the social and ethical ramifications of genetics has lead to appearances on major television and film projects, including Motherland: A Genetic Journey (2003), a BBC Two documentary that follows three African Americans attempting to discover their African roots through genetic mapping.
